THE MAN BEHIND THE MESSAGE
A Life Built on Service BeforeIt Was Built on Scripture
Called to Serve, Long Before He Was Called to Preach
Pastor Rodney T. McDuffie spent 25 years in the United States Navy before he ever stood behind a pulpit. He served with discipline and purpose, completing a military career that shaped not just his career but his character. Following his retirement from the Navy, he continued that commitment to service for 14 more years as a Supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security, leading teams in one of the most demanding environments in the federal government.
Those combined years of service taught him things a seminary classroom cannot: how to lead under pressure, how to stay accountable to something larger than yourself, and what it costs to show up fully for the people depending on you. These are the same values he carries into every sermon, every counseling session, and every page of this book.
Two Decades in the Pulpit
Pastor McDuffie holds a degree in Biblical Studies and has served for over 20 years as a pastor in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church within the Third Episcopal District. He has led congregations, preached the Gospel, and committed himself to teaching the Word of God in a way that meets people where they actually are.
Beyond leading his own congregation, he serves on the examining board of the CME Church, where he helps assess and prepare the next generation of ministers and pastors for their divine assignments. His approach to ministry is grounded in truth, informed by experience, and driven by a deep desire to see others walk confidently in their God-given purpose.
Entrepreneur, Martial Artist, Family Man
In addition to ministry and public service, Pastor McDuffie has owned and operated a flooring business, gaining a firsthand understanding of entrepreneurship, perseverance, and the role faith plays when the path forward is uncertain.
He is also a practitioner of Wing Chun martial arts, a discipline that reflects his broader philosophy: stay grounded, stay focused, and remain prepared. Whether in ministry, business, or personal growth, he brings the same steady, deliberate approach to everything he takes on.
Above all, he is a devoted husband and father of four. His life is a testimony to what obedience looks like when it is not comfortable, and what it produces when you commit to it anyway.
Writing With Purpose
As an author, Pastor McDuffie writes with honesty and specificity. He does not reach for inspiration at the expense of accuracy. He draws directly from his own experiences, including moments of doubt, fear, and breakthrough, to encourage readers who are navigating their own questions about calling, faith, and what God is asking of them.
